Memory Improvement

How to Improve Memory

Let’s discuss ways in which you can improve your memory. Not being able to remember something that is important to someone else can cause problems in your personal life. Not to mention your professional life, as you need to remember many important facts at work.

Most memory techniques come down to being able to associate words with each other. It is done by turning words into pictures and movies in your mind. You can then go back in time and bring up this movie in your mind and you will remember what is associated with each other.

When dealing with numbers, we will first turn them into words and then turn them into pictures. There is a phonetic number system where each number is associated with a sound. We will get into this in future updates to this website.

Here is a technique that is especially useful if you have to remember lists in a particular order. Sometimes you will want to memorize lists like when you are going shopping. For example you are going to a stationary store and need to remember 5 items. This can also be used with 50 items.

The items are:

Staples

Pens

Folders

Sponges

Printer Ink

You will take the items you want to remember and add them to a

place you know.

Here is what you can do:

I would take any area of my house. Let's say I choose my kitchen. I already know what is in there so I don't need to remember anything about the room. I would then combine each item in my mind with a part of my kitchen.

I would picture a stapler on my kitchen counter and it is shooting Staples at my refrigerator. The refrigerator explodes from the shots and 1000 Pens are flying out of the refrigerator. Then all the Pens fall in my sink and the sink is backed up. The sink lets out a tremendous cough and out comes the Pens and a huge Folder. The Folder lands on the stove and is getting burned so it jumps off the stove on to the kitchen table. All of a sudden little sponges are jumping on the folder and absorbing all the flames.  The Folder in return squeezes the sponge and Ink oozes out of the sponge

This is a technique the Romans used to remember large amounts of information. You can use every room of your house and place an item in many sections of the room. Also, you can use your neighborhood and streets, etc.. There is no limit to the information you can store with this technique.

There are any number of techniques that you can employ to improve you memory. We will discuss them and give examples on this website.
